OK, so this is what I have noticed about the Instinct

I have been stalling with my beloved SERO contract, until the iphone 2's arrival (probably june).

I didn't want to loose my rate, but I really wanted a phone in the form factor of the iphone.  I just wanted to wait until it had 3G and a chat client.

Now just when you thought all hope was lost, the instict announcement hits.

I have no illusions about it being as slick as the iphone, but for 50 bucks a month, I would consider suffering, as long as it could still do all the same bits.

Now for the problems.......

1. Are we going to loose SERO? This would eliminate the financial attraction of the service rate.

2. Processor speed on the hardware is only 200mhz.  I am not sure if that is a deal breaker, as I am not planning to have the device do any video heavy lifting.

3. No bloody Chat.  This is one of the reasons I didn't pick up iphone 1.  I use the chat client, with my office, when I am in the field.  It is not a hobby.  I have seen posts that indicate that developers will be able to make apps. with BREW / Java.  The question is:  Will sprint let us have them, or will they keep the platform closed and decide what we need?

Well, there you have it.  It all really comes down to cost and free access to applications that you decide you need.  Let's hope sprint doesn't stonewall this device out of existance.

I can't address your first two concerns, but as for chat that shouldn't be a problem. The Instinct will run Windows Mobile which means you have a very wide selection of software available to you, including instant messaging clients.

My mistake. Disregard that.

the instinct isn't running windows mobile. it is running a samsung os, with a java shell on top.

Sorry. I've been working on the site for the HTC Touch Dual and got confused. You're absolutely right.
